Lawsuit against Chesapeake Regional involving OBGYN reaches $6 billion; 94 more women join

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A lawsuit filed last month against Chesapeake Regional Healthcare in connection with a convicted OBGYN has expanded to more than 600 plaintiffs, claiming the organization enabled him to perform dangerous and unnecessary procedures over several years.

New York-based DiPietro Law Firm and attorneys Anthony DiPietro and Victoria Wickham announced Wednesday an additional 94 plaintiffs had joined the lawsuit, on top of its 510 initial plaintiffs.

Dr. Javaid Perwaiz was convicted of performing illegal surgeries and healthcare fraud in federal court in late 2020 and was sentenced to 59 years in prison.

The lawsuit alleges that Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, former CEOs Donald Buckley and Christopher Mosley and others enabled Perwaiz by granting him privileges.
