Virginia Beach City programs help prevent and end homelessness for more than 400 households

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — High rents and an expensive housing market: it’s a combination that experts say contributes to a growing homeless population across the country.

However, Virginia Beach is working to curb the problem. The City of Virginia Beach Housing and Neighborhood Preservation Homeless Services Division was able to help end or prevent more than 470 households from becoming homeless in 2024. Out of the 470 households, the city was able to help prevent 354 families from facing homelessness and connect 118 families to safe and stable housing.
