Preserving the Battle of Great Bridge where it all happened

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Great Bridge has changed quite a bit since 1775. It is now considered one of the smaller water crossings in the Hampton Roads area. But in the Revolutionary War, that connector was pretty much it.

In that time period, controlling the bridge meant running the flow of commerce and resources.

“So strategically significant, we think, for the outcome of the entire Revolutionary War, in spite of the fact that this was a very small location and a very short battle,” said reenactor Edward Thompson…
