Man pleads guilty after shooting at a grocery store in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man pleaded guilty in December to maliciously firing inside of an occupied building after he fired his gun at a Food Lion in Norfolk back in August 2025, according to a press release.

On Aug. 2, 2025, Thomas Brown Jr., 23, had an argument with a patron inside of a Food Lion at the Southern Shopping Center on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk. After walking out of the store, Brown fired his gun at three of the store’s windows, shattering them. He then got into the passenger seat of a car and left the scene. There were no injuries during the incident.

Witnesses described Brown and the getaway car’s appearances to officers. Investigators used the Flock license plate recognition system to identify the car, flagging it for its involvement in the crime.
