Reaching out to help customers in the Value City Furniture Stores Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — It’s gone from frustration to success for Chesapeake resident David Burpeau, who had recently spent thousands on furniture he never received from Value City Furniture, after another area furniture company stepped in to help.

10 On Your Side has been bringing you the frustrations of several customers out money and furniture as a result of American Signature filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy 11 protection and the closing of all Value City Furniture stores.

“It was kind of a gut punch, to be honest with you,” Chesapeake resident David Burpeau told 10 On Your Side last week. “You know, you’re expecting something, and, oh, my gosh, what’s going to happen now?

Furniture frustration in Hampton Roads, across U.S.

Burpeau ponied up just under $3,400 at Value City Furniture store in Greenbrier on a credit card for this sectional couch system. Then he got a call saying they can neither deliver furniture nor return his money because Value City is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

But Matt Stein, part-owner of Ashley Furniture store, got wind of the situation and has stepped in to help…
