HAMPTON, Va. — A woman convicted in the death of a 4-month-old baby more than a decade ago is scheduled to learn her sentence in Hampton court on Monday.
Gracielle Garnett was found guilty in October of second-degree murder and child neglect in connection with the December 2015 death of an infant who was in her care. The case, delayed for years, was decided in a bench trial before a Hampton judge.
Prosecutors said the baby’s mother dropped off her 4-month-old son at Garnett’s home, where Garnett was babysitting. Later that day, Garnett reported that the child became unresponsive. She contacted the baby’s mother and first responders, and the infant was taken to the hospital, where he later died…
