HAMPTON, Va. — The Hampton City Council will soon consider a new ordinance pertaining to sleeping or storing property after hearing from multiple community members.
In June 2025, City Council deferred a vote on an ordinance that would have made it a Class 1 misdemeanor to sleep, camp, or store personal belongings on public property. The proposed ordinance would have applied to all public spaces in Hampton, including sidewalks, parks, beaches, schools, and facilities controlled by the city or affiliated agencies.
