MILAN, Italy (WAVY) — While athletes from around the world compete for gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics, one Virginia Beach couple is experiencing the trip of a lifetime from the stands.
Suz Drgon and Doug Beach, married for more than 30 years, are currently in Italy soaking in the sights, sounds and flavors of the Milano Cortina Olympics. From opening ceremonies to heart-pounding events, the pair said the scale of the Olympics is unlike anything they have seen on a screen.
“To see it on the TV is one thing, but to see it on the grand scale, it’s absolutely, entirely different,” Beach said. “It was surreal—the only way you can describe it, [is] like, pinch me I’m at the opening ceremonies for the Olympics.”
