Memorial service honors fallen Virginia Beach Police officers 1 year later

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (WAVY) – It’s been one year since two Virginia Beach Police officers were shot and killed during what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop.

Officers Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese pulled over a vehicle with an expired license plate. The driver, John McCoy, refused to pull over until ultimately reaching a dead end. That’s when he exited his vehicle, pulled out a gun and shot both officers.

One year later, despite unpleasant weather conditions, family, friends, police, and city officials all gathered outside the Virginia Beach Police Departments 4th Precinct. A sign of resiliency as they honored the two officers whose lives were taken…
