Mistrial for woman facing charges of practicing dentistry without license

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The trial of a woman charged with practicing dentistry without a license ended in a mistrial Tuesday morning after a juror admitted to looking up the case online during a break in the proceedings.

On Monday, Cristina Caro-Valencia was in court on trial for multiple charges of performing an invasive procedure without a license. As day two of the trial began, after three of those charges had been dismissed on the trial’s first day, according to online court records, her lawyer and prosecutors, as well as the judge, were informed by a member of the jury that another juror had said in the juror room that he had searched the internet for information on this case.

That person went on to say that the juror said, “there is more to this case than what we are hearing.”…
