More speed cameras coming to Virginia Beach school zones

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The City of Virginia Beach announced it is planning to add automated speed cameras to more school zones this school year. The new cameras are scheduled for installation at six local schools in the coming weeks.

Drivers caught speeding in these zones will face a $100 fine. The city implements a 30-day warning period at each new location before issuing official citations and fines.

Virginia Beach to activate speed cameras in several school zones

The next phase of the program involves the following schools:

  • Seatack Elementary School (installation expected late March 2026)
  • Birdneck Elementary School (installation expected late March 2026)
  • Woodstock Elementary School (installation expected in mid-April 2026)
  • Salem Middle/Salem High School (installation expected in mid-April 2026)
  • Rosemont Elementary School (installation expected this school year)
