Virginia Beach officials will quietly ticket more drivers who speed in school zones

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.( WAVY) — If you’re speeding in one of the seven school zones in Virginia Beach where speed cameras have been installed, you’re probably not going to hear the sirens and flashing lights that would typically accompany the dreaded traffic stop.

Instead, you’ll get your citation and fine through the mail.

More speed cameras coming to Virginia Beach school zones

Some drivers love the system that catches people driving at least 10 mph above the school zone speed limit of 25 mph during enforcement hours. In some residential school zones, the speed limit is just 15 mph.

“It’s great,” one driver told 10 On Your Side. “You shouldn’t be speeding the school zone anyway. I mean, it’s to keep everybody safe, keep everybody honest and everybody responsible.”…
