Person rescued from submerged vehicle in Hampton pond

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – One person was rescued from a submerged vehicle Wednesday night in a retaining pond in front of Sentara CarePlex, according to the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue.

Crews were dispatched to a call for an accident near the 3000 block of Coliseum Drive at approximately 9:05 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle submerging in a retaining pond in front of Sentara CarePlex.

Fire officials said the sole occupant of the vehicle was attempting to exit but experienced difficulty. The individual was safely rescued and taken to a local hospital for care with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Hampton Police Division’s Joint Public Safety Dive Team determined there were no additional occupants of the vehicle and remained on site to support the removal of the vehicle with a local towing company.
