VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A popular high school tradition known as “Senior Assassin” is prompting an uptick in police calls, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department, which is urging students to play safely as graduation approaches.
The game, often played by graduating seniors, involves participants “eliminating” one another using water guns or Nerf-style blasters in a last-person-standing-type competition. While the game is intended as a lighthearted end-of-year activity, police say it has led to confusion and concern among residents who are unaware the game is taking place.
“In some cases, callers report seeing individuals hiding in bushes or running through neighborhoods with what appear to be firearms,” said Andre Jerry, an administrative sergeant with the department’s Third Precinct. “From a homeowner’s perspective, that’s alarming if you don’t know it’s a game.”…
