Virginia Beach man sentenced to 22 years for stepfather’s murder

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach man will serve 22 years for the murder of his stepfather last year.

Daniel Edwin Van Dyke, 40, pleaded guilty and was sentenced Tuesday. Circuit Court Judge Randall Smith sentenced Van Dyke on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful wounding – stabbing in the commission of a felony. Van Dyke’s sentence is 45 years in prison, with 23 years suspended.

Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Colin Stolle said evidence would have shown that Van Dyke stabbed his stepfather, Roy Stackhouse, 58, in the home in the 1300 block of Graylyn Road that day. Van Dyke’s mother, Stackhouse’s wife, called 911 and told them her son stabbed her husband. Officers arrived and found Stackhouse deceased in the kitchen…
