Mother and best friend of victim in deadly Norfolk shooting speak out

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Days after a deadly shooting off East Freemason Street in downtown Norfolk left 21-year-old Davion Cooke dead, family and friends are speaking out.

10 On Your Side spoke with Cooke’s best friend, Mari Wilson, who was with Cooke in his final moments.

“They tried to rob us, and then he just started fighting, and the shots went off. I look over there, and I just see him (Davion) running towards me. I just laid him down and just told him to try to hold on while I called the police,” said Wilson, “I could tell they weren’t gonna make it in time. That was my brother, man.”

Both Wilson and Cooke’s mother, Toria Riddick, described Cooke as someone who could light up any room he walked into…
