The path to public service for Emily Edmonds isn’t the one you might expect. A graduate of Howard University, where she earned a degree in International Business and Marketing, Emily found herself staring down a future lined with an abundance of corporate opportunities and the promise of financial success. With experiences like an internship at Google already under her belt, she had every reason to follow that path, but she made the decision to do something entirely different with her life – serve the citizens of her hometown.
“Working in the corporate world just isn’t where my heart is,” Emily says. “You can build financial wealth there, but for me, real wealth is knowing the work I’m doing is helping people live a better life.”
That thought was shaped early, in a household where she was raised by a mother who was a social worker and a father serving as a juvenile probation officer.
