Local psychiatrist known as ‘real-life Frasier Crane’ dies at 77

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va (WAVY) — A prominent psychiatrist who had ties to Hampton Roads and described as a real-life Frasier Crane, often helping people through his radio show, has died.

Dr. Neil Price, a familiar voice to listeners of B103.7 just as the fictional Frasier Crane on the TV shows “Cheers” and “Frasier” was to listeners, dedicated his life to helping others, sometimes in mental crisis. One thing his daughter loved about him was his ability to assign a song to any person’s problem in hopes of making their load just a little bit lighter.

“Say it was, you need to relax, he would diagnose, or prescribe ‘Take it Easy’ by the Eagles, you know,” daughter Pamela Price said in a zoom interview Thursday. “Or you really wanted a love and it was unrequited, he would say Rolling Stones ‘You can’t always get what you want’,”…
