Man used Hispanic surnames on fake insurance policies believing company would assume the person was undocumented, officials say

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — A Bowie man is facing charges after he allegedly submitted multiple fraudulent life insurance applications.

51-year-old Corrie Dewayne Alston was charged with one count of a felony theft scheme of $1,500-$25,000 and 21 counts of felony insurance fraud over $300, Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced Tuesday.

Officials say that Alston worked as an IT specialist for the federal government but had a second job as a licensed Maryland insurance agent for the Don Pope Insurance Agency, selling policies for Senior Life Insurance Company…
