Purple Line Catenary Work Shuts Down Wayne Avenue in Eastern Silver Spring

Overnight construction on the Maryland Purple Line will temporarily close sections of Wayne Avenue and disrupt Ride On bus service in Eastern Silver Spring this week, according to a service alert from the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.

The street closures began Sunday night and will run nightly from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. through Tuesday, June 16, as construction crews install overhead catenary wires to power the 16-mile, 21-station light rail project, which is nearly complete and slated to begin service in winter 2027.

Wayne Avenue will be closed in both directions between Flower Avenue and Sligo Creek Parkway, and Manchester Road will be closed at the intersection with Wayne Avenue. Ride On bus routes 12, 13, 15, and 19 are affected by the closures, with several stops not served, according to MCDOT…
