Violent 3-day stretch in DC leaves 2 dead, 6 injured

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A 15-year-old Maryland girl was among two people killed during a violent weekend across the District, as police investigated multiple shootings and stabbings that unfolded across the city.

D.C. police said 15-year-old Journee Long, of Bowie, Md., was accidentally shot and killed Saturday inside an apartment in the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Southeast D.C.

According to investigators, another teenager described as a friend picked up a firearm inside the apartment when it discharged, striking Long.

Police later arrested a man who lived in the apartment and charged him with offenses related to possessing an unregistered firearm. Authorities have not accused him of firing the weapon.
