WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The United States Park Police (USPP) said officers took one person into custody after a car crashed on DC-295, shutting down the roadway for a time.
USPP said officers who were patrolling in the area near Pennsylvania Avenue SE where a shooting had been reported saw the car speed off. The car would not stop for officers and crashed into another vehicle. USPP said four people got out of the car and ran. Officers immediately detained one of those people.
Police make arrest in fatal 2025 DC-295 crash
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said a stretch of DC-295 was shut down Monday afternoon as a result of the police activity and while crews worked to remove a crashed car.
Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination (MATOC) Program posted about the incident on X at 2:46 p.m., mentioning the police activity on DC-295 North, just past Pennsylvania Avenue SE. At the time, one lane was blocked with, the left lane able to get through the area. MATOC later said delays extended to the Southeast Freeway and to Interstate 395 North.
At 4:29 p.m., DC Police Traffic posted that the roadway was closed temporarily, in part, so that a car could be removed. A picture shared shorlty after that post showed the car…
