Man to serve 35 years for striking, killing pedestrian in police chase near White House

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A Silver Spring man was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Thursday for a deadly pedestrian crash near the White House in 2022, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) for D.C.

Spiro Stafilatos, 39, was found guilty by a jury in May of second-degree murder, aggravated assault while armed, and fleeing for the death of Shuyu Sui and injuring another pedestrian.
