WASHINGTON — The Federal Bureau of Prisons will close six facilities and make operational changes at two others as the agency addresses long-standing maintenance and staffing challenges, the BOP announced.
The closures include:
- Beaumont FCI Low
- Big Spring FCI and its satellite camp
- La Tuna FCI, La Tuna Federal Satellite Low and satellite camp
- Lexington FMC’s satellite camp
- Petersburg FCI Low
- Taft FCI
Staff assigned to Beaumont FCI Low, Lexington FMC’s satellite camp and Petersburg FCI Low will be transferred to other units onsite or nearby to continue working for the BOP, according to the agency.
A reduction-in-force will take effect at Big Spring FCI and its satellite camp, as well as La Tuna FCI, its Federal Satellite Low facility and satellite camp. La Tuna FSL and Taft FCI are currently non-operational, and only minimal staff will be affected, officials said…
