Hundreds treated, 15 arrests reported during DC’s July 4 festivities

WASHINGTON (7News) — Emergency officials reported a sharp increase in calls for service during the Fourth of July celebrations in the nation’s capital, as thousands gathered on the National Mall for the Salute to America fireworks.

According to the National Special Security Event Joint Information Center (NSSE), the Office of Unified Communications received 4,165 calls to 911 citywide on Saturday– about 1,150 more than a typical summer Saturday.

Officials said the 9 p.m. hour was the busiest hour of the year, with fireworks accounting for the highest number of calls at 506.
