WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — ATU Local 689, the union representing Metrobus operators, is calling for an end to drivers quoting fares to passengers following the alleged assault of an operator in Silver Spring, Md. over the weekend.
Photos shared by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) showed a masked man who, police say, assaulted a bus operator.

The operator allegedly had quoted the bus fare to the rider and advised that alcohol is prohibited on buses. The man allegedly reached beyond the plastic protective screens to assault the driver behind the wheel. Police are still searching for the man.
Operators began quoting fares in May, after a nine-year-hiatus. WMATA suspended the practice in 2017, and the union claims it is the leading cause of assaults on operators…
