If you were waiting for the classic California sunflower shot, you waited too long. Yolo County’s famous rows near Davis and Woodland peak in late June and early July, and by now most of those fields are sunburned, bowed over, and done for the year. Oregon and Washington, on the other hand, are just getting started.
Both states run their sunflower season deeper into late summer, which means there’s still a real window to walk into a field this tall and gold without a plane ticket to Kansas.

Oregon: Bella Organic Farm, Sauvie Island
We’ve picked berries at the u-pick farms on Sauvie Island more times than we can count, and Bella Organic’s sunflower field has become the late-summer version of that same habit. It opens August 8 and runs daily through September 14, 2026, from 9am to 5pm.
Admission is $10 and includes two stems to take home; extra stems run $3-5 apiece if you want more than a couple for the kitchen table. It’s on Sauvie Island, about 20 minutes from downtown Portland, so it’s an easy add-on to a farm store run or a Wapato Loop walk…
