JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. (7News) — The Air Force has activated a second helicopter squadron at Joint Base Andrews, beginning a gradual transition from the familiar Bell UH-1N Twin Huey to the larger and more modern Lockheed Martin Sikorsky HH-60W Jolly Green II.
The 5th Helicopter Squadron was activated Thursday during a ceremony at the Maryland installation. It is the first new Air Force helicopter unit established at Andrews in 60 years and the first time the base has hosted two Air Force helicopter squadrons simultaneously.
