Downed trees and thousands of Dominion Energy customers with power outages remain in Alexandria after a strong thunderstorm system that rocked the region overnight into Friday.
As of 10 a.m., more than 2,300 customers remain without power. On social media, Mayor Alyia Gaskins noted power outages had been at a peak over 10,000 during the storm. That number included 16 “special customers” such as schools, nursing homes and other critical areas.
