WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Downed branches and damaged trees remained scattered across the National Mall on Labor Day, days after severe storms brought powerful winds to the DMV.
Large limbs and sections of trees could be seen near popular walkways from the Lincoln Memorial to the Smithsonian museums, and the Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. memorials, respectively. Wind gusts reached 64 mph Thursday at Reagan National Airport.

Visitors said the damage was striking in an area usually known for being well-maintained.
“It’s families out here, people riding bikes, and you just look over and just carnage,” said Zach of Fairfax, Virginia.
Another local resident questioned why debris remained days after the storm, saying, “If it happened on Thursday, I’m just curious as [to] why it’s still here.”
