More than 33 years after a 10-year-old Maryland boy disappeared while riding his bike, investigators say they finally have new answers in one of the region’s most heartbreaking cold cases.
George “Junior” Burdynski Jr. vanished on May 24, 1993, after leaving his Brentwood neighborhood on his bicycle. His disappearance led to a massive search involving local police, the FBI and community volunteers, The New York Times reported. Despite years of effort, the case remained unsolved and George was never found.
Now, Prince George’s County police say they have charged 61-year-old Joseph Lynch with second-degree murder and additional crimes connected to George’s disappearance, according to NBC Washington.
