IKEA is preparing to close several of its smaller Plan and Order locations in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia, while its stores in College Park and Gaithersburg will remain open, according to Retail Dive.
The retailer confirmed to Retail Dive that its Plan and Order with Pickup location in Georgetown will close October 18, followed by Annapolis on October 30 and Fairfax on November 30. Employees at the affected locations will have opportunities to relocate to nearby IKEA stores, including the College Park location.
IKEA said the closures are part of its strategy to build a more affordable, accessible and sustainable business, with the company continuing to invest in home delivery, pickup services and digital shopping.
