Bishop Jakes continues preaching
Steve Harvey interviewed Bishop Eddie Long on his television show in December 2017. Harvey asked the pastor why he did not step back from preaching and take some time off after being accused of inappropriate behavior with underage young men. Long replied that nothing would stop him from preaching and Bishop TD Jakes seems to have the same attitude.
Some people have said that Jakes should keep a low profile until this situation is sorted out. The Christian Post reported that the Bishop preached at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden International in the Washington DC area on January 5. He had the crowd on their feet after saying the following.
The Holy Spirit sent me all the way to the DMV to tell you this is your year to pivot,”
New Year’s slogans motivate those in the audience
In Virginia churches, I have heard this message of a New Year being “your year” since around 1997. It motivates and excites those in attendance to believe in a better year than the last. I don’t know one person, however, who said that they had a wonderful prosperous year after hearing a preacher say this in close to 3 decades.
