82 People Charged in Eastern Panhandle Drug Trafficking Network

MARTINSBURG, WV – According to a press release issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, a significant blow has been dealt to a major drug trafficking operation in the Eastern Panhandle as 82 individuals face federal charges for distributing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced the unsealing of the indictment, revealing the extent of the operation that spanned Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

According to the press release, Gary Bernard Brown, Jr., known as “Gee,” aged 38, from Baltimore, Maryland, is identified as a key figure, supplying large quantities of fentanyl capsules and powder for redistribution in Berkeley and Jefferson Counties.

The investigation resulted in the seizure of 10 kilograms of fentanyl, along with cocaine, methamphetamine, firearms, and substantial assets.

Acting Special Agent in Charge Mike Shanahan of the FBI-Pittsburgh Division emphasized the coordinated effort across three states to dismantle the criminal enterprise that posed a significant threat to local communities.
