“I’ll miss her presence every day. She always called me wherever she went, and I’ll miss her phone calls. I miss her, period. I just want to know who did it,” said Deborah.

On Monday when she didn’t hear from her daughter, she got worried and called her several times, but to her surprise, a voice she did not recognize answered the phone.

“The corporal answered the phone… Then he said it’s been a death. Ayanna’s dead, she got hit by a hit-and-run car,” she said.

Police say it happened around 3 a.m. on Central Ave. near the beltway. A car hit Ayanna while she was walking and then drove off. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
