DC Mayor Muriel Bowser withdraws controversial nomination

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Mayor Muriel Bowser formally withdrew the nomination of Christopher Rodriguez to be the lead technology officer for the District on Tuesday following pressure from the D.C. City Council.

Rodriquez, who will stay in his role as assistant city administrator, faced opposition from councilmembers who were planning a disapproval resolution to reject his nomination later in the week if the mayor did not remove it.

Several members of the council declined to talk to DC News Now about their opposition but were included in a Monday email from Councilmember Brianne Nadeau titled “The Clock is Ticking – Dr. Christopher Rodriquez’s nomination” which stated members would be voting to disapprove of him next week.

Bowser sent a letter to Council Chairman Phil Mendelson on Tuesday to alert him and the council of her formally withdrawal of Rodriguez’s name from consideration. Rodriquez could not be reached for comment.
