Maryland couple charged in organized retail thefts of Virginia stores

LEESBURG, Va. ( DC News Now ) — A Maryland couple was charged in an organized retail theft investigation that stemmed from a shoplifting incident that happened at an Ulta last year.

On Oct. 27, 2023, Leesburg Police Department officers responded to a shoplifting report at an Ulta located at 1606 Village Market Boulevard.

One person displaced by house fire in Prince George’s County

An Ulta representative said the couple came into the store shortly after 3 p.m. and stole merchandise valued at more than $6,400.

Through an investigation, the shoplifters were identified as Roxana Dumitru, 29, and Ionut-Robert Ionescu, 30, both of Laurel, Md.

It was estimated that they are also responsible for stealing more than $158,000 in merchandise from multiple retail stores located in Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina.

Dumitru was arrested on Jan. 26 in Prince George’s County, Md. and Ionescu was arrested on Jan. 27 in Orange County, Calif. The couple was charged with grand larceny and larceny with the intent to sell.
