‘Lousy day’ leads to $100,000 lottery prize

Feb. 1 (UPI) — A Maryland man said a “lousy day” led to his buying a Powerball ticket to boost his mood and he ended up winning a $100,000 prize.

The Frederick man told Maryland Lottery officials he stopped at the Royal Farms on English Muffin Way in Frederick to cheer himself up after a day of work for the U.S. Postal Service.

“I’d had a lousy day at work,” the player said. “And there, right in front of me on my way home, was a Royal Farms. I figured that a Lottery ticket might change my mood.”

The man bought a ticket with two sets of quick pick numbers with Power Play for Jan. 22 drawing, and checked the results online the day after the drawing.

“‘That’s my ticket,’ I said to myself, ‘except for one number,'” the man recalled.

The player called for his wife, who said she was concerned by the tone of his voice.

“I thought something was wrong,” she said.

The players spent several minutes trying to analyze the results.

“We went back and forth as to whether it was a winner,” the man said.
