Small Business Owner Not Ready For Retirement After Winning $5M On Maryland Lottery Scratcher

Troy Deneau of Dorchester County won the second of three $5 million top prizes on the 50 Years! scratch-off game.

The ticket was purchased at 7201 Main Street on Willards in Worcester County last Thursday.

“We are very grateful for this win,” said the Eastern Shore man as he stopped by lottery headquarters alongside his wife, Rachel. “I am now set for retirement.”

Troy says the $50 scratch-off is the only lottery game he currently plays. He worked for a fire-protection company along the Eastern Shore in Maryland and Delaware for decades before taking over as owner about eight years ago.

While he was certainly thinking about retirement following his big win, the small business owner says he plans to stay with his company a bit longer.

“At first, I said ‘I’m done,’ but we have been too dedicated to this company for 30 years to walk away,” he tells officials.

Meanwhile, the 50 Years! game that gave Troy his big win still has remaining unclaimed prizes: one $5 million top prize, one $100,000 prize, two $50,000 prizes, 18 $10,000 prizes, and others ranging from $50 to $1,000.
