Black bear spotted in Northeast DC neighborhood

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Someone spotted a black bear was spotted in Northeast D.C. Tuesday morning.

Shireen Shakouri posted on the X platform the she was walking near 14th and Newtown streets in Brookland just before 7 a.m.

She told DC News Now on X that she saw a “furry” figure that she thought was a dog running around the neighborhood.

She approached the animal and quickly realized it was a bear.

She told DC News Now on X that she knows the DMV is home to different types of wildlife and while she’s happy to share the area with them, she wants to make sure the bear is placed in a safer environment.

Shakoirui said she reached out to the Humane Rescue Alliance for assistance.
