CT farmer riding to Washington on his tractor to push for more aid for farmers

NORTHFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Northford farmer who lost all of his crops during last month’s hail storm is headed to Washington, D.C. on his tractor.

Northford farmer seeking assistance after hail storm destroyed all crops

First, he stopped at the state capitol to try to drum up support from lawmakers in Hartford.

“A little over two weeks, ago my whole farm got damaged by hail,” Dellacamera, who runs Cecarellis Harrison Hill Farm, said.

He said that in just few minutes, he lost his entire income for the rest of the year when hail pummeled the crops.

“My farm lost $410,000,” Dellacamera said. “That’s what I got in bills. That’s what I need to pay my bills.”

“Will’s farm has federal insurance,” Rep. Vincent Candelora, (R) North Branford, said. “I think he pays $15,000 a year for that insurance and as he’s said they’re offering him $42,000, less than 10% of his total loss.”

Dellacamera wants there to be a fund established for farmers when devastation strikes and he wants the federal insurance program reformed.
