D.C. Man Convicted of Possessing a Machine Gun in First Felony Case Under New Firearms Law

In the first felony case prosecuted under the new Secure DC Omnibus Amendment Act of 2024, a Washington, D.C., man has been convicted of possessing a machine gun, announced the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia today.

Keimontay Holston, 21, was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday, in Superior Court on multiple charges, including possession of a machine gun, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, possession of an unregistered firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

According to court documents and trial evidence, on June 6, 2024, members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Robbery Suppression Unit executed a search warrant at Holston’s apartment.

Officers encountered Holston in the hallway and, during a subsequent search, recovered a fully operational 9mm Glock 17 equipped with a “giggle switch.”

This device converted the handgun into a machine gun, enabling it to fire multiple rounds with a single trigger pull, the department says.

In addition to the firearm, officers recovered a magazine loaded with 17 rounds and a second magazine containing 31 rounds of ammunition.
