Commanders Re-Sign Fan Favorite Quarterback

The future of the Washington Commanders’ quarterback position appears to be in great hands after a historic start to No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels’ NFL career.

Through five games, the former LSU star leads the league in completion percentage (77.1%), has thrown for 1,135 yards and four touchdowns while adding 300 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Still, the team has shuffled the quarterback depth chart behind their 23-year-old budding star. Prior to the return of fellow former No. 2 pick Marcus Mariota from injured reserve last week, veteran Jeff Driskel had served as Washington’s primary backup signal-caller through Week 4.

Mariota’s return left rookie quarterback Sam Hartman without a role, as the team waived the former Notre Dame and Wake Forest star on Thursday.

However, his time away was short-lived.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and others on Friday, the Commanders have re-signed quarterback Sam Hartman to the practice squad. The team confirmed the signing , which was expected to happen, on Saturday.
