Man critically hurt in DC robbery spree dies nearly 2 weeks later

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said Friday that a man who was beaten and robbed by two people more than a week earlier died from this injuries overnight.

Bryan Smith was walking in the 500 block of T St. NW around 5 a.m. on Oct. 27 when the people robbed him. Police received a call that Smith was unconscious. They found him on the ground when they arrived at the location.

MPD said investigators determined that the people responsible for robbing Smith were connected to three other crimes in the hours that followed:

5:50 a.m.

  • Police said the two people approached others in the 1900 block of 14th St. NW, assaulted them, and tried to take their belongings. They were not successful.

5:55 a.m.

  • MPD said the two people went up to someone in the 1800 block of Vermont Ave. NW and robbed the person. That person was not hurt.

7:22 a.m.

  • Detectives found that the two people confronted someone in the 900 block of Rhode Island Ave. NE, demanded items, and took them. The person wasn’t injured.
