High Wind Watches Posted in Oregon For Winds Up to 70mph
12/11/24 6:41 EST
Good evening everyone. An active pattern resumes for the West Coast and Pacific Northwest after a little bit of a lull in the action for the past 10-15 days or so.
Over the next 24-48 hours, two distinctly different and equally powerful storm systems are expected to come ashore across parts of California, Oregon, and Washington; bringing with it, a wide array of severe weather conditions.
Our first low pressure system is due into the region tonight and the overnight hours. We’ll start off with heavy rain and wind, then heavy snows for interior sections; including the Cascades and Sierras. Snow accumulations in north central California will be the “jackpot” region, and could reach depths of 18-24″+ in spots.
High wind watches are posted for the central and south coast of Oregon, where winds will likely reach or exceed 70mph at times. This will be enough to cause some power outages, property damage, and downed trees.
Meanwhile, a second system is due in by Friday morning, and will dive a little deeper into central California as far as how south the rain and wind goes. Look for a repeat in terms of powerful winds, heavy rain, and heavy mountain snows. However, we could see some of that heavier snow cover more real estate from Washington down into central California.
