PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Service at eight bus stops in Oxon Hill is set to be discontinued, according to an announcement from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) on Monday.
For around 50 years, Metro has utilized the P12 bus route, which includes four stops between Southern Avenue and Wheeler Hills Road. The stops are located within the Forest Hill Apartment Complex.
As a result of a cease-and-desist letter sent from the complex’s property owner, on Sunday, Jan. 12, Metro will stop servicing the four stops located within the complex and an additional four stops on Wheeler Hills Road, as they will no longer be accessible without going through the Forest Hill property, according to WMATA.
In the letter , the firm representing the complex said the buses have caused “significant damages” to the asphalt roads on the property. The letter also alleged that WMATA has “refused” to repair the damages to the roads despite “multiple conversations.”
