‘A lot of worry, a lot of fear’: DC area nonprofits feel the impact of federal worker layoffs

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) – As mass layoffs of federal employees continue, D.C. area nonprofits are feeling the impacts.

“Based on how many federal workers are here in D.C. – not just the workers themselves but the ripple effect of the federal economy in D.C., contactors, other folks – we fully expect to see a rise in need,” said Ashely Domm, with Bread for the City.

The nonprofit organization provides food, clothing, medical care, legal resources and more for those in need. All services are free.

“We’re already getting calls about our criteria, ‘Are people allowed here? ‘ We say, ‘Of course,’” said Domm. “There’s a lot of worry, a lot of fear.”…
