DC Weather: Drying out Saturday evening as cooler air returns

WASHINGTON (7News) — A robust cold front will track across the DMV on Saturday afternoon, bringing showers and scattered thunderstorms.

This morning it is wet, muggy, and gray with scattered rain showers. Temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 70s.

Scattered thunderstorms will develop after lunchtime, as the cold front draws near. No widespread severe weather is expected but the Storm Prediction Center has placed the parts of the region under a marginal (level 1 of 5) risk for severe weather. If any storms do fire, the greatest concern would be the potential for intense wind gusts.

Unfortunately, rainfall totals are trending lower. At this point, plan for rainfall totals anywhere from a few hundredths of an inch with higher end amounts closer to .20″. Northwest winds will increase behind the front, so plan for gusts up to 30 mph during the afternoon and evening, as humidity levels fall.
