If DC is facing a ‘budget crisis,’ how can it afford the RFK deal?

WASHINGTON — As the District of Columbia braces for budget cuts and potential furloughs, frustration is mounting over a congressional delay that has left the city unable to access its own tax dollars.

In a post on social media over the weekend, Mayor Muriel Bowser hinted that a big announcement, which we now know was a new deal to bring the Washington Commanders back to the District, was on the way.

“I want DC to know that we’re not standing still in FY26. We’re putting forward a transformational economic growth agenda,” she wrote in a social media post. “Our investments in the future have nothing to do with the FY25 CR-caused budget crisis that could have significant—and devastating—impacts on this summer’s city services.”…
