OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Arrested while trying to pick up $240,000 in gold bars from a 74-year-old, an Owings Mills man was sentenced to a year and a half in prison on Tuesday.
Vipul Thakkar, 53, was also sentenced to five years of supervised probation after he was convicted of four counts of attempted theft. Thakkar was also ordered to pay back $40,000 to an 80-year-old victim whom he had picked up gold from inside Silver Spring’s Leisure World Plaza in July 2024.
